Details & Itinerary

Popponesset Bay is one of the most popular bodies of water on upper Cape Cod, popular with boaters, fishermen, and families that just want to have some fun outside. We will meet at a nearby conservation area and ride a short network of trails before crossing a salt-marsh, then arriving at a little-known beach at the mouth of the bay. We should have the opportunity to ride the beach trail along the water's edge, then stop for a snack and drink while taking a breather at the beach.

This is a great excursion for those looking for a mix of beach riding and traditional trail riding.

Schedule
  • Meet and depart from Crocker Neck Conservation Area in Cotuit, MA
  • Enjoy a 25-minute ride to Popponesset Bay through wooded trails, salt marsh, and paved/gravel road
  • Relax at the water's edge, swim, chill, have a snack... it's your choice
  • Let some air out of the tires and ride along the beach trail to experience what fat-tire biking is all about
What You Should Bring

Bring along some sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and closed-toe shoes. You may also wish to bring a towel if you would like to take a swim.

You will be provided with all riding gear including bicycle, helmet, and water.

Photos of your group are also included and provided to you after the tour.

Best Times for This Excursion

This excursion is generally scheduled around low tide to maximize the amount of beach riding that is possible.

How strenuous is this?

You need some level of fitness to enjoy this activity. The sand can be soft at times, which is more difficult than a firm surface such as a paved road or bike trail. That being said, you do not need to be an athlete. We will ride at a pace that is comfortable for you, taking as many breaks as necessary. There is no hurry, no stress.

If you are concerned that this may be a bit near your physical limits, please let me know and I will ensure that your group is private to eliminate any worries.

Guided By Experts

Your guide (that's me, Gregg), knows the area well. All roads, trails, and beaches are second nature.

All Riding Equipment Included

You will be provided with all the necessary gear to enjoy one of Cape Cod's most spectacular beaches. Bike, helmet, and water and a snack are provided. Radio communication with your guide is also available for those intrepid riders that wish to advance ahead of the group.

Leave the Crowds Behind

You won't find packed beaches full of umbrellas here. Miles of pristine beach are waiting for you. Feel free to dismount your bike and walk in the sand, splash in the water, and cast your stress far into the ocean.
